How to Stay Cool in this Summer

To the point: it was hot and the next two months the temperatures continue to rise. Although it is tempting to put the air conditioning to maximum or planted two centimeters from the nearest fan, there are other tricks to keep cool.

1. Leave the blinds.
As simple as it seems, it’s said that up to 30% of the heat comes from the windows and use flower blinds or something like that can save up to 7% on bills and lower the indoor temperature at about 6 ° C. In other words, avoid basically your home into a small greenhouse, which is what usually happens when windows are facing south and west.

2. Be smart with doors.
Close rooms that are not used will prevent the cool air reaches these areas during the hottest part of the day. In contrast, during the cooler hours of the night (see tip number 7), it is better to let the air flow naturally through your house.

3. Change the sheets.
Change the bedding not only gives a new look to your room, but also refreshes. While flannel sheets and wool blankets work well as thermal insulators, it is now the cotton season, which leaves transpire better and maintains freshness. In addition, we recommend that you buy pillow buckwheat, as grains let the air pass and so do not keep the warmth of your body like traditional pillows.

4. Make your ceiling fan go in the opposite direction to clockwise.
Though not know it, your ceiling fan needs to be adjusted depending on the season. Causing it to rotate counterclockwise to clockwise and at a faster rate in summer, ensures that the air stream generated creates a breeze effect that will give a greater sense of freshness.

5. Worry about the person, not the house.

If your ancestors survived without air conditioning, you can too. It is to feel cool inside: for that, you can take iced drinks with biodegradable drinking straws, or get a piece of cloth in cold areas where the pulsations are stronger, like the neck and wrists. There are other tricks, such as choosing the clothes well or tell your partner that you will not snuggle until the leaves of the trees begin to change color.
