Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 Review – Smart Gadget to Clean the Air You Breathe

If you are living in urban areas or polluted cities like Beijing or Doha, you will absolutely appreciate clean air more. The Beijing’s air is so bad that residents have to buy bottled fresh air imported from Canada.

At the moment of writing this review, I’ve checked the air quality in Beijing and it is still extremely polluted. The air quality index here stays at 174 which means everybody would experience health effects and should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion.

Xiaomi has released a lot of smart products this summer, some doesn’t make sense but some are very helpful. People might think they are stupid to make an air purifier, I had the same thought until I had a chance to test the new Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2. Keep reading to figure out what makes the product useful.

Design
This is the 2nd generation of the Mi air purifier and there’ve been some significant changes here. As compared to the original version, the new one is 40% smaller and more lightweight as well. The maximum capacity is 388 cubic meters per hour, which is a little lower than its predecessor. You can use it in a room of 27.2 to 46.6 square meters.

Similar to recent Xiaomi’s products, the new Xiaomi Air Purifier features a minimalist design with only 1 button on top to switch modes and 1 button on the back to dim the light.

The Xiaomi Air Purifier 2 runs in 3 modes, which are Auto, Sleep, and Favorite modes. The Auto mode automatically switches between modes according to the environment, the sleep mode turns down the fan for a quiet night’s sleep, and Favorite mode allows you to adjust the air flow.

Notably, the purifier uses a 360-degree barrel HEPA filter which will increase performance by purifying air from all directions. It’s very easy to replace the filter and Xiaomi recommends you to change the filter every 4-6 months, depending on your usage. The Xiaomi Home app will let you know when you should order a new one. The replacement filter costs about $30.

Performance
You can install the Mi Home app to get the most out of the purifier. The app will show you the PM2.5 estimate, the room temperature, humidity, filter condition, running time and amount of clean air delivered. You can also control the purifier with the app.

The most important info here is the PM2.5 estimate. PM2.5 shows the amount of particulate matter in the air small enough to penetrate deeper into the lungs. The fine particles are less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter. An increase of 10 μg/m3 will result in a 36% increase in lung cancer and contribute to heart diseases as well. In the United States, the daily average standard is 35 µg/m3 while the annual average standard is just 15 µg/m3. So you can imagine how hazardous the air quality is in developing countries. The PM2.5 in Beijing even passed the 500 µg/m3 a few times per year, they had to close industrial plants and everyone is recommended to stay indoors.

I live in a green suburban area, so I thought that the air here was clean enough to keep me healthy. When I powered on the Mi Air Purifier, it shows the PM2.5 estimate of nearly 40 µg/m3 which is a little higher than the recommended standard of 25 µg/m3. Therefore, I know that I will need to use the air purifier more often. After operating for about 40 minutes, the PM2.5 level has decreased to just 11 µg/m3. It also manages to get rid of the smell coming from my kitchen.

However, when I use the Auto mode, I don’t see a significant change in PM2.5. Therefore, I had to switch to the Favorite mode to adjust the fan speed, and the air quality is improved dramatically faster. This is because Xiaomi considers the air in my room fairly clean and doesn’t boost the fan. It only works harder when someone in the room light up a cigarette or when I start cooking.

Conclusion
Pros
Clean design
Improve air quality indoors
Affordable price
Cons
The filter needs to be replaced every few months

The Mi Air Purifier 2 is a great upgrade from its predecessor or from any other normal purifier. It will help you keep track of the air quality indoors and know when to clean it. I highly recommend the product.

Have a Nice Life with the Xiaomi Roborock S50

The Xiaomi Roborock S50 is the second version of the robot vacuum cleaner from the Chinese firm. It has one of the best data sheets on the market for this type of device thanks to a 5200 mAh battery that gives it a range of over 2 hours and a suction power of 2000 Pascal. It has a dust tank of 0.48 L and has the distinction of having a water tray and a mop that allow it to wash the floors.

Unpacking and Installation
A loading dock
A dust filter
A water tank
Two mini mops

Once you have assembled the elements (the dust filter, the water tank, and a mop), just turn on the Xiaomi mi vacuum once and open the Mi Home application to update and clean it. connect to the WiFi network. The loading dock has several sensors that allow the vacuum cleaner to be placed automatically on it after cleaning and has a protection to avoid attacking wooden floors after too long exposure between the floor and mop Xiaomi Roborock, not stupid!

How does it work?
The first time you start a cleaning, via the application or directly by pressing the central button on the vacuum cleaner, it will fully scan its environment to reproduce a 3D map of it, which will be available later on the application.

Despite the presence of sensors, the Xiaomi mi vacuum will voluntarily bump into the different walls and furniture to ensure that they are present and to try to suck the various dust present in these locations. As you can tell right away, the vacuum cleaner is very effective on large areas well cleared but will encounter much more difficult to go in different corners or in rooms with too much furniture, it is not a quick fix. However, for my part, it has greatly reduced the time I spend cleaning my floors since, apart from the corners of the furniture and some places inaccessible to him, he does an honorable job.

However, be careful with cables and objects on the ground, it will tend to all walk in your apartment (True Story). If a sensor is inaccessible, the device will pause its cleaning session and the application will push to indicate that it may be dirty. To use the mop, simply fill the water tray, then run a cleaning cycle and finally to recover and wash it at the end. It has an average autonomy of 2 hours, which is more than enough because it will reposition itself on its dock at the end of cleaning.

The Mi Home application
Xiaomi, through its Mi Home application, allows users to fully control the Roborock S50. You can start a complete cleaning cycle, ask the Xiaomi mi vacuum to go to a specific location via the 3D map or to clean a specific area.

Several modes of operation are available and can increase or reduce its power to reduce noise pollution (it remains a vacuum cleaner) or ask him to wash the floor only. A "Carpet" mode allows him to recognize the carpets on the ground and temporarily increase his power as soon as he begins to clean one.

The application also gives access to the history of cleaning cycles carried out, their durations and the distance traveled by the vacuum cleaner. Finally, a remote control mode allows you to control the vacuum cleaner manually by advancing it thanks to the commands present on the application.

The automation is also one of the highlights of the application: it allows you to set hours of passage and hours of deep sleep so that it does not disturb you at night and when you are present in your apartment.

Tips for The Rice Does not Stick

Unless it is a risotto or the concoction of Japanese dishes, the rice should not stick or be sticky. But it is not always easy to obtain this result, worthy of the greatest chefs. The good news is that you will find below some recommendations that will help you get there. If you do not know where to start, here we will help you. Do not miss these tips so that the rice does not stick and surprise everyone with a really delicious dish.

Steps to follow:
1.One obvious recommendation that should not be overlooked for non-sticky rice is to choose a good variety, one that contains the least amount of starch, which will prevent it from clumping together.

So, forget the risotto special rice if you want to get the desired result. Instead, opt for long rice, basmati rice, and parboiled rice.

2.One of the tips for a rice that does not stick is to add a tablespoon of olive oil, corn or sunflower to the cooking water. This will help to add a delicious flavor to your dish while guaranteeing a non-sticky rice and therefore an exceptional result.

3.Another technique, adopted by many cooks, is to make a little-fried rice, before cooking in water. To do this, simply add a little oil in a saucepan, let it heat and, once hot, to return the rice 2 to 5 minutes. Add it to the pot of boiling water and continue as usual.

4.One trick for the rice does not stick is not to stir too much when cooking, twice enough is enough. By stirring the rice, you release the starch contained in it, which gives a much more sticky result than you expect. Do not worry! If you cook your rice in a suitable saucepan and at a constant temperature, it will not burn or stick.

5.It is also important to consider other recommendations so that the rice is not sticky and is delicious. Thus, it is important to:

(1)Choose the right pan to cook the rice. Always avoid pots where food tends to stick. Xiaomi rice cooker that is nonstick is ideal for this preparation.
(2)It is important to follow the instructions to prepare a classic rice, ie 2 cups of water for 1 rice.
(3)Once the water starts to boil and you add the rice, it is very important to lower the heat and let it cook over low heat. In this way, you will avoid getting sticky and sticky rice.

Xiaomi Connects Its New Rice Cooker to The Internet

Xiaomi introduced a connected rice cooker. Although this device is still not widespread in our region, it is, however, a must-have equipment in Asian countries. This induction model can, of course, be controlled remotely, but the connection to the Internet especially allows the user to never miss cooking. Indeed, thanks to the dedicated application, the cooker is able to recognize 200 rice references based on the barcodes present on the packages and to adapt the different preparation steps.

Despite its practical side, the Xiaomi rice cooker has not yet established itself as an indispensable product in our European kitchens. On the other hand, in Asia, it proudly sits in many homes. If Xiaomi chose to connect its new model to the Internet over Wi-Fi, note that this is not the first rice cooker connected. Panasonic, in particular, has already tried the experiment with the SR-SX2. Nevertheless, the possibilities offered here go a little further than simply starting at a distance.

The user can adapt the cooking according to his tastes from his smartphone or tablet, but above all, this model promises a perfect cooking. According to Xiaomi, simply scan the barcode on the rice package and the application will offer the best possible cooking and then transmit it to the device. The Chinese manufacturer said that 200 types of rice are recognized at the moment. We hope, however, that other references will be added in the future.

The art of cooking rice does not stop with the knowledge of the product. To make everything perfect, the Xiaomi rice cooker uses induction technology. This is not new on this kind of product, but this method allows to have a homogeneous temperature (up to 105 ° C) in the tank unlike the system of resistance located at the bottom of the device. In addition, the removable container is covered with a non-stick material to prevent the rice from sticking to the walls and thus facilitate cleaning.

This " rice cooker " represents the first device in the Mijia range  (which can be translated as the Xiaomi smart home), an ecosystem of connected devices that will grow rapidly.

Basic Recipe for Cake With A Rice cooker

As you now know, I do not have a "real" oven in my Japanese kitchen. But - and you know that too - I will not give up the idea of making cakes or bread! After testing the rolls in the microwave and oven toaster, here is the story of cakes rice cooker. Yes, yes, I assure you. Here is the gear :

A rice cooker whose main function - wait for it - is to cook rice. But the peculiarity of this instrument is that it is intelligent (it does not seem at first sight, but if), that is to say, that it reacts to the quantity of liquid it contains (the rice is cooked when there is no water). Hence the idea of making cakes in it: the cake will be cooked when the dough is no longer wet! Do you find that foolish? Not me! Moreover, to confirm this idea I went for a walk on the Japanese Google, typing "rice cooker" and "cake" in Japanese, and I found a site full of recipes for cakes rice cooker.

My Japanese friends were outraged: "the rice cooker is made to cook rice! ". Sacrilege, what?
I do not care! I will still try!
Cakes of small size, certainly, but well inflated and even a little gilded on the top. The consistency is sometimes a little spongy (close to the "rag cake"), sometimes you think it's baked, other times you swear it's a semolina cake ... The result is often good and always surprising.

Here is the recipe on the basis of which multiple variants are possible (change the fruits, put chocolate chips, coconut, dried fruits ...)

A basic recipe for a cake with  Xiaomi rice cooker
- 65g of flour
- 1 packet of baking powder
- cinnamon
- 50g of brown sugar
- 1 egg
- milk (with the egg you get 80ml of total liquid)
- an apple cut into small pieces

Mix the dry ingredients on one side and the liquid ingredients on the other, then add the liquid to the dry by making a well. Mix well and add the apple quarters.
Pour into the bowl of the previously buttered Xiaomi rice cooker, close the lid of the Xiaomi rice cooker and switch on. When the cooker rings, check the cooking, and if not cook a little more until the tip of the knife comes out dry. Let cool 5 minutes before unmolding.

Mind you, ever since I started baking cakes inside, my Xiaomi rice cooker makes a weird sound and a lot, a lot of steam when we just ask him to cook some rice ... So I'm I was a little upset with cake batter and the poor do not understand what is happening to him, or he is not happy when I only ask him to cook rice since he has now proved to me that he knew how to do much better ... The investigation continues.

In the meantime, my skeptical Japanese friends on the diversion of the rice cooker for pastry purposes have found my cakes very good (the Japanese are very polite, all in all). However, it would surprise me that they risk it: "The rice cooker is still made to cook rice! "

I would have tried ...

Since my Japanese adventures, I have persevered in making cakes in rice cookers, and it still works as well. My rice cooker is a delirium of the brand SEB.

How to Maintain Your Air Purifier?

It is true that having an air purifier at home is important because of the benefits it can bring to the user. However, do not forget that this kind of equipment also needs to be maintained from time to time to ensure a long life. That's why we made the decision to write you this article.

Points to consider before doing the interview
First and foremost, you need to know that the maintenance of an air purifier is based at the filter level. Which makes it an easy device to take care of. So, take a good look at the filter on your equipment before doing anything to help you get out of trouble.

Let's see without delay the maintenance of the types of filters that can equip an air purifier.

- Let's first see the pre-filter
Generally, this accessory is designed with steel or plastic. Therefore, some brushes or rag will be enough to clean it. This way, you will avoid dust from piling up.

- Then the ion filter
To keep the Xiaomi water purifier that is an ionic air purifier, just take care of these metal plates that help it retain pollutants in the house. Thus, you must clean these accessories with hot water after separate holdings of the body of the device. Then take a paper towel or a damp cloth as recommended by the manufacturer to wipe it clean. Be careful not to touch a single plate with your fingers. Finally, you only have to let them dry before putting them back in their places.

- After, there is the combustion filter
An air purifier with this type of filter is recognized for its ability to burn polluting elements through a special filament that equips it. In order to choose your air purifier, we recommend sites on the subject. However, there are ceramic models that let in the air. These accessories do not need to be washed or otherwise maintained, but you only have to replace them when they start to be capricious.

However, you might encounter a model with a HEPA filter. Which will bring you to proceed differently to maintain it?

- Then comes the photocatalytic filter
Note that a photocatalytic filter air purifier is usually part of appliances with a HEPA filter that allows it to not leak any piece of dust. Add to that, it is often equipped with a UV lamp that feeds somehow the tube (cartridge) of titanium. Therefore, it is this cartridge that you must maintain.

To do this, you must unplug the unit and remove the filter. Then, take the photocatalytic cartridge and rub it with a brush without leaving any traces of scratches. It is recommended to do this two or three times a year to ensure a long life.

- Finally the plasma filter
The latter is the easiest to maintain among the different types of filter for an air purifier. Indeed, you will only have to turn off the machine and remove the filter to clean it. Then let it dry before replacing it.

To finish, do not hesitate to ask the type of filter to install on the air purifiers that will be presented to you before buying it.

5 Tips to Make Sure You Choose Your Air Purifier!

An air purifier is a BBC home ventilation system that allows filtering the ambient air by purifying the air of the rooms of the house, by removing impurities: fine, pollen, bacteria. Choosing an air purifier is a good solution if you are sensitive to pollution.

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING AN AIR PURIFIER?
1 - Technology
Many purification technologies exist plasma, photocatalysis, filtration, water filtration. Some of these technologies, although optimal, emit harmful particles during the decomposition of pollutants. Others propose an efficiency often limited in the treatment of the pollutants or in the quantity of air to treat to make the room healthy.

Air purifiers equipped with filters are, for their part, recognized for optimally combining the efficiency of treatment and purification of air without loose particles.

2 - Filters to choose your air purifier
To choose an air purifier available on the market, filters differentiate and condition their effectiveness in terms of sanitation.

There are four main types of purifiers, depending on the filtration mode.

The most technological:
Ionizer purifiers: This filtration mode uses electrostatic attraction as a principle of operation. Particles that are too heavy to stay in the air fall to the ground, releasing ambient air from any pollution.
Photocatalytic purifiers: The polluting particles are oxidized by titanium dioxide, and converted into water vapor, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.
Plasma air purifiers: an oxidizing molecule is propelled into the room to clean the air, through a magnetic field that captures the particles.
This type of purifier charges the air with ozone and free radicals, which can be harmful to health.

The healthiest and simplest:
Filter purifiers: the purification of the air is carried out by means of filters, generally superimposed. It is a mechanical filtration technique, favored for domestic use. The most advanced models using mechanical filtration are usually provided with at least three superimposed filters:
A pre-filter, which captures the largest particles (animal hair, hair, insects).
An activated carbon filter that will destroy odors and captures volatile organic compounds.
A HEPA filter is added to Xiaomi air purifier which ensures the elimination of 99% of molecules having a size greater than 0.3 μg.

On extraction with a dust filter
On fresh air, with a pollen filter, a fine particulate filter, and a bacteria filter.

3 - Automatic detection of pollution
An automatic adjustment according to the air quality is more important to enjoy a healthy air with confidence. Choosing an air purifier that has one or more sensors (particle, gas) can detect the level of pollution and adjust the filtration rate depending on the level of pollution in the home.

4 - Air treatment
The speed of a purifier to remove particles present in the room depends on two measures:

The air flow, which ensures an optimal treatment of the volume of air contained in the room. It must be as high as possible to ensure optimal circulation and purification of the air.
The CADR is a measure that quantifies the speed of a purifier to remove particles in the room.
The higher the CADR, the better the purifier. However, the higher the airflow and the CADR, the higher the noise level.

5 - The sound level, an essential criterion for choosing your air purifier
By day, or by night, the sound level is just as important for choosing an air purifier. A "silent" night function is therefore recommended, to ensure air purification that respects sleep.

Tips and Tricks to Clean Your Kitchen Naturally!

The kitchen is probably the part of the house that is cleaned most often, because of the possible multiplication of bacteria in contact with food. And this piece also can be perfectly maintained with natural products.

In the kitchen, some people use and abuse antibacterial products, mostly chemical and dangerous for the environment. These toxic products for the planet contribute to indoor air pollution. So avoid them, especially since it can be very easy to clean his kitchen naturally and effectively.

A refrigerator without bacteria or smell
A fridge is for first use to keep food purchased through the cold. Indeed, the cold reduces the activity of bacteria responsible for the deterioration of food.

But a fridge is really efficient and healthy for food only if it is perfectly maintained. It is not because the fridge cools your food that it is necessarily healthy.

Vigilance and frequency of cleaning
To prevent your fridge from becoming a real nest of microbes and bacteria, you must first be careful about its contents and its operation:

  1. Check the state of your food: a rotting vegetable could contaminate other products
  2. Never place hot products in your fridge: this increases the temperature inside the home kitchen appliances requiring a greater energy consumption and allows certain bacteria to work quietly before the fridge finds a suitable temperature
  3. Do not leave the fridge door open too long
  4. Carefully pack meat that should not come into contact with other food stuff
  5. Cleaning your refrigerator every two weeks is the ideal frequency to prevent microorganisms or bacteria from developing.

Clean your fridge with natural products
Because of its antibacterial and degreasing properties, white vinegar is a perfect product to clean the fridge.

Mix a volume of white vinegar with a volume of hot water and put a clean sponge in the fridge, without rinsing. The idea is that a thin film of the mixture is deposited and thus prevents bacteria.

Lemon and baking soda against odors
To avoid unpleasant odors in your fridge, always make sure you always keep your food.

You can also eliminate odors from the fridge with baking soda that you have placed in a cup. The bicarbonate has the effect of absorbing odors. To be replaced every month.

If you use lemon in the kitchen and you have half a fruit left that you do not know what to do, leave it in the fridge door to deodorize the interior.

Do not forget the door seals in the fridge when cleaning biweekly!

How to Make Fresh Cream With Milk?

The cream ... A treat for everyone and for all dishes. It is the basic ingredient of whipped cream that is used for everything (pancakes, ice cream, pie ...). So today, we invite you to discover how to make fresh cream with milk.

Industrial preparation of fresh cream
The cream that you find in supermarkets comes from an industrial process of separating the cream found in natural milk. Skimming is the natural process that allows the cream to rise to the surface of the milk forming a layer. Then it will be pasteurized, will have to undergo a ripening phase (to thicken) and will eventually be packaged to be sold.

Know that if you plan to make fresh cream with the milk of big surface, this will be impossible for you even with a whole milk. So if you do not have a milk producer near you, you have to go without. We offer here 2 tips to replace the cream depending on the use you intend to make (sweet / salty).

Recipe 1: with farm milk
Ingredient / Material Needed:
Unpasteurized, whole or farm milk (which you can buy from a dairy farmer).
A fridge.

To make fresh cream with milk :
1. Pour the milk into a salad bowl.
2. Put the salad bowl in your refrigerator.
3. Let it rest.
4. A layer of cream will eventually form.
5. Get it back!

Recipe 2: with whipped cream
For this preparation, you will need powdered gelatin. Know that you can also replace it with gelatin sheets, you just need to adjust the quantities. You can also use agar if you do not have gelatin.

1.Dilute the gelatin. Mix one tablespoon of powdered gelatin in 1/4 cup of water. Let the mixture sit until the gelatin absorbs all the water.
2.Heat the milk. Put ½ cup of milk to heat over medium heat. Stir it constantly so that it does not burn. As soon as small bubbles form at the edges and the milk starts to foam, remove the pan from the heat.
3.Mix the gelatin and the milk. Pour your hot milk into a Xiaomi bowl. Add the water + gelatin mixture. Be sure to beat the mixture with a whisk so that the gelatin dissolves well in the milk. Otherwise, you will get a salad bowl of milk with small pieces of gelatin.
4.Add sugar and vanilla. Add these ingredients to the milk + gelatin mixture. Keep whipping the mixture.
5.Let cool. Put your mixture in the fridge for about 90 minutes. Be sure to mix your preparation every 10 minutes.
6.Cool the mixture in a bowl of ice water. Take a larger container, half fill with water and add ice cubes. Remove the salad bowl from the refrigerator and immerse the 30 minutes in the ice water container.
7.Whip the cream. Assemble the cream using an electric mixer. Once it has thickened, you can keep it in the refrigerator with stretch film.

Advice
For whipped cream, if you do not have gelatin, you can also use sweetened condensed milk.
If you want whipped cream instead of whipped cream, you can put it in a siphon if you have one.
