Has the water heater broken down and are you thinking of changing it yourself for a new one? Well here we will show you how to install a water heater in a few steps, and without the need of an authorized plumber (although you will always have this option if you do not want to do it!).
Changing a water heater is relatively easy since the entrances and exits must already be installed in the house (water and gas inlet, hot water outlet), which will save a lot of time in the installation.
If you are going to buy a new water heater, remember that to save on butane gas it is best to choose a heater with automatic ignition, either electronic or hydrogeneration.
Uninstall the old or broken heater
Before installing the new water heater, you will have to uninstall the old one. How to do it? Very easy, follow these steps :
Cut off the water and gas supply from the general keys of the home
Remove the old heater housing
Remove the hoses by the thread attached to the wall
Remove the screws or hooks that hold the heater
Remove the heater
Tools to install a water heater
A - Stillson wrench (spanner key)
B - Spanner
C - Driller
D - Drill bit 6 or 8
E - Tape measure
F - Pencil
Materials for installing a water heater
Many cheap water heaters, both electric and gas, usually bring all the materials for installation in the home. Anyway, we leave you the list of materials that are usually used for gas heaters:
A - Water hoses for 3/4 (2 units)
B - Teflon tape roll (1 unit)
C - 3/4 water pass wrenches (2 units)
D - 3/8 gas stopcock (1 unit)
E - Wall plugs from 6 to 8 mm (depends on the support)
F - Alcayatas of 6 to 8 mm (depends on the support)
G - 1 support for the heater (each heater brings its fixation)
Steps to install a water heater
Cutwater and gas supplies from the general keys of the house (if you have not done it before)
1. Apply Teflon tape at the water inlet and at the hot water outlet (between 6 and 8 laps at least)
2. Install the 2 water tap 3/4 (one for cold water inlet and one for hot water outlet)
3. Apply Teflon tape to the gas inlet
4. Install the gas stopcock 3/8
5. Drill the wall to place the water heater holder
6. Put tacos and hooks on the wall
7. Place the water heater in the stand
8. Place each hose in its socket, checking that each one goes in its place. A tip: tighten the hoses with your hand and, when you can not do it again, give a quarter turn with the wrench so that it is well seated, so as not to break the connections
9. Open the stopcocks, both water, and gas
Ready! Now you can start using the gas with total naturalness.
Remember that boilers, installations, heaters, butane ... you have to check them every so often.
